The Space
CONTACT darkroom is a new Not-for-Profit art centre and photographic darkroom in Totnes, Devon. Born from a frustration with a lack of creative and photographic resources in the area, we decided to stop moaning and do it ourselves.
CONTACT offers accessible and affordable opportunities to use and learn about darkroom photography, providing a safe and engaging space where students, artists, and all community members can come together to explore in the physical processes of photography.

The darkroom was built from the ashes of an old butcher’s shop and, with a lot of hard work, has been transformed into a fully equipped analogue printing space.
We currently have four enlargers, two colour, which are situated in private individual booths and two B&W, all are capable of printing 35mm up to 5x4. The space also features a 2 metre sink and a large RA4 colour processor that can handle prints up to 20 inches wide.
Whether you’re printing in colour or B&W, big or small, we’ve got you covered.

Workshop
This open plan space houses the colour processor, workshop table and more desk space for members. There is a viewing board as well as space to spread out, get creative and view all your darkroom creations.
We also have a scanner and a large lightbox so you can digitise your prints and negatives.
